Confucianism - a Religion or a Philosophy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Confucianism - a Religion or a Philosophy - Essay Example From an investigation of the content and a superficial audit of Confucianism, it must be comprehended by the peruser that there are eventually just three choices which could be gathered: the understanding that Confucianism speaks to a way of thinking however not a strict one, the understanding that Confucianism speaks to a strict perspective as a matter of first importance inside a philosophical translation being optional, and the understanding that Confucianism speaks to both a strict and a philosophical understanding. In like manner, it is the conviction of this creator that the most fitting understanding of this specific circumstance is the primary determinant recorded above; with the third determinant additionally being a far off chance. Trying to see such an inquiry may appear as something of a pointless activity because of the way that Confucianism is certifiably not a broadly drilled religion; notwithstanding, trying to characterize what explicitly is and what explicitly isn't a religion is a significant part of outlining and characterizing the present world wherein we live. The purpose behind picking this first determinant as the most probable case being referred to is because of the way that Confucian convictions don't indicate a conviction or thankfulness for any subset of divine beings that must be followed or acknowledged all together for the person to accomplish a level of advantage, love or salvation. While different religions make explicit cases with respect to what gods must be adored and praised all together for a level of individual advantage to be created, Confucianism makes no such cases. In addition, expanding upon this is the way that Confucianism is syncretic; for example it expands upon other conviction frameworks and beliefs. This is something that couple of other conviction frameworks can guarantee and not a solitary world religion is fit for bragging. This reality, maybe past any of the others which will be examined, assists with sepa rating Confucianism and separate this as a philosophyal understanding of the world as opposed to a carefully strict one. Normally, in spite of the fact that the previous definition is sound, the reality remains that Confucianism holds key components of strict doctrine concerning the methods by which people ought to incorporate with each other and their general surroundings. Because of the way that the compositions and conviction arrangement of Confucianism are concerned fundamentally with philosophyal and moral translations, it is straightforward why huge numbers of the people that have examined this specific world view have gone to the understanding that philosophyal world view and translations of right direct is a handle that all the more fittingly characterizes Confucianism when contrasted with the cover and to some degree wrong handle of religion (Smith 186). However, paying little heed to the translation of Confucianism that is made, the reality remains that it holds a large nu mber of the parts of a religion so it is likewise justifiable why such huge numbers of people have alluded to it as a religion; loaded with a blessed arrangement of compositions/sayings, a prophet, and a gauge of norms and convictions that are passed down starting with one age then onto the next; starting with one adherent then onto the next. All things considered, it is the perspective on this creator that Confucianism is in certainty an evident ââ¬Å"religionâ⬠as it admonishes a lot of devotees to act and act with a particular goal in mind because of compelling as well as characterizing their lives dependent on a specific arrangement of lessons and standards. In such a way, the meaning of religion may not impeccably merge with the way that Confucianism doesn't have a ââ¬Å"godâ⬠or a specific pastorate or some other such signs of other notable religions, it meets

Allegory of the Cave Essay 7 - 1404 Words
Behind The Lens Many people question themselves when they think they arenââ¬â¢t right about something because everyone else around them believes the opposite. What you think might be truer than you think because the world tends to believe what they want to, and not the truth. In Platoââ¬â¢s philosophical example of life in the ââ¬Å"Allegory of the Caveâ⬠he explains and questions his views on human existence and the reality of things. Everyone has a different reality and a way that they perceive things but other factors like the media influence and persuade us. The media has the power through the radio, television, or other technologies to tell us things that might not even be true but we have to believe them because we donââ¬â¢t know what is true. Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The business of the media is to treat us like their slaves and so that we help in believing what is false so that it satisfies them in making them more reliable. The ââ¬Ëworld of sightââ¬â¢ are all the things that we see and can interpret which is the worst thing the media has the ability to persuade because they can turn something real into something that is totally fictitious but to our eyes can seem real. Our eyes are vulnerable into turning into a prison house perceiving all these lies that the media shows us. Plato had many ideas that not only related to reality but the branches of reality and the things we see everyday might not even be real, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦how could they see anything but the shadows if they were never allowed to move their headsâ⬠(Plato 1). The shadows again represent all the lies that media tells us and we can never turn back because since the media is so widespread and everyone believes what they tell us, for the reason that their job is entitled to. The persuasion and effect that it has on humans is ruining the existence of us as a whole because the vulnerable we get the worse the world will get. Our human existence is in crisis because of the influence the media has on us. Common Mistakes in Your Blogs
Dear Writers, Let me share with you the common mistakes of writing blogs: many dont include the title of the blog, and leave it with the default name: New post at 8 Jun 2011 13:49:33. Its very wrong, following the guide published in the news: How to promote your blog in the Internet, it says there: It is very important to have your keyword as a title(anchor text) for a link, as it will raise your positions in Search Results for this keyword. Do not neglect with this and include the keywords you are using in the blog title as well. many of you publish whole papers in the blogs. Its ok, but not all of your blogs should be like that. Remember about keywords, and that you should adjust each blog post (even if its a paper) with the needed amount of keywords (choose about 2-3 of them, and fill the blog post with this keyword). Advice: Do not write blogs on any topics, choose 3-4 topics you specialise at, choose definite keywords you want to advertise your account with, and write blogs using these definite keywords. This way is much better, as your link will appear on the first page of Google request on your keywords faster, than if you write each blog with different keywords. Remember to make a keyword research using free tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal in order to find low competitive keywords. Put definite goals before yourself, like to appear in top 10 results in Google by request: fate in romeo and juliet essay. And do everything possible to be in top 10 by this request (How you can check this?- Put your chosen keyword in google and check on what page your link appears). After you reach your goal I am more than sure customers will start coming to you by this requests. But this is all about long-term perspective and gaining customers. The Georgia Constitution And The United States Constitution
Ameka Holland Professor Chitwood American Government 101 18th May 2015 Take Home Portion of Test The Georgia Constitution has many differences then you think, from the US Constitution. The differences are determined by the time of creation of both the Georgia and United States constitutions. With that being said, the United States Constitution throws down the fundamental aspects of the Constitution like the legal, political and economic system. Then there is the Georgia Constitution, this constitution extends the first Amendment of the United States Constitution and provides us with more accurate details on the freedom of religion. The Georgia Constitution just basically meets the United States Constitution, but is more up-to-part andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The General Assembly is very similar to the United States Congress. Why? Because it is a bicameral legislature with a Senate and a House of Representative. They both operates in similar fashions except for two important differences which are that only the House of Representative can write apportions and also only the Senate can confirm appointments the governor makes to the executive office. Georgiaââ¬â¢s governor which is Nathan Deal is in the executive leadership in Georgia, as for the president of these United States he is the Executive Chief of all the states including Georgia. The Governor of Georgia does not have a cabinet, but our president of the United States does have a cabinet. Georgiaââ¬â¢s governor is considered weak compared to the other governors nationally (Chitwood notes). The governor of the United States can serve two four year terms whereas the president of the United States serve eight years in office. Like the president the governor of Georgia is responsible for submitting a yearly budget. However, the governor does have the power to appoint members to eight boards and commissions. Paradise Lost Essay Paper Example For Students
Paradise Lost Essay Paper Paradise LostMilton writes Paradise Lost in the tradition of a classic epic poem. All epic poems contain some common features. Milton follows this outline with great precision and style. His poem uses the guidelines of an epic poem and elaborates upon them to make his poem one of the most popular epics written. In his poem, Milton uses the key points of an epic poem when he traditionally invokes a muse to speak through him, includes great deeds of valor, long speeches, and a list of the protagonists Milton follows the tradition of epic poetry when he asks a muse to speak through him. It is clear that for Milton it is the poets submission to the voice of his muse, to divine inspiration, which ultimately distinguishes the soaring creation of Paradise Lost from an insulting speculation of what happens in the Garden of Eden. Milton does not, however, present the hymn of a heavenly muse as his only defense against presuming too much. Through the book, he remains sensitive to the relations hip between himself as poet and his center of attention. While he insists on the honest intentions of what he undertakes, he never neglects to expose the satanic aspect of his poetic posture. In this way Milton differs a slightly from a traditional epic. Instead of speaking through Milton, the muse is more of a second person that inspires Milton. Never the less, Paradise Lost still follows the outline of a customary epic poem. Another part of a traditional epic poem is that the hero must perform great deeds of valor to defeat the villain. Milton wants his readers to be forced to face the problem of Satan seeming invincible. Satan is, after all, an angel. He is a mighty angel that is removed from Heaven. In order for us to see the power of God, it is necessary that Satan also be powerful. It is important that Satan, a parody of God, is viewed as an eloquent, bold being; one that possesses superhuman strength, extraordinary martial prowess, and fortitude so that he can be a foil to show how great God is. In order for God to vanquish and control this awesome being, his characteristics must exceed the characteristics of Satan. Therefore, it emphasizes the great valor God possesses to successfully defeat Satan in their battle. One of the last characteristics that this poem demonstrates that are typical of an epic poem is the long list of the protagonists that the plot involves accompanied by long speeches by th e main characters. Milton dedicates a large portion of the first book of the series to a catalogue of the fallen angels. The numbers of angels that are listed are used to give the reader the notion of being overwhelmed by the mass number of villains. He also provides extended formal speeches by the main characters. It is on the basis of the eloquence and power of those speeches that much of the personality of the characters is shown. This listing of villains and long, profound speeches verifies that this poem fits every description of an epic poem. When Milton writes Paradise Lost he uses a general outline that will categorize his poem as an epic poem. He elaborates on the general characteristics of an epic poem including the relationship between the muse and him. They are shown as two separate people with the muse as the higher being. Obviously, in spite of some adjustments and alterations, Milton undeniably uses classical epic traits. Milton builds his epic out of views of the past and uses every feature of epic poetry that can possibly be used. English Essays

gilgamesh and lysistrata essays
gilgamesh and lysistrata essays In reading the two ancient tales, Gilgamesh and Lysistrata, I have begun to question many of the social paradigms surrounding gender roles. While finding many differences, I have drawn several parallels between the ideas of these writings and our modern ideas of what it means to be a man or woman. These stories were very clear in illustrating mens positions of authority and the ideas of kingship, militarism, and heroism. Men were continuously expected to demonstrate the tough guy persona that is perpetuated throughout todays media. Conversely, particularly in Gilgamesh, the positive ideas of brotherhood and male bonding are represented. I have surmised that the role of women in society in both antiquity and modern times is very limited in its importance and that men continue to dominate all of the established power structures. However, in my reading, I have also realized that there seems to be one recurring theme that contradicts my last statement. In both Lysistrata and Gilg amesh, the female characters seemed to represent a certain control over the male characters. Unfortunately, this one display of power is through the use of sex, of course. In this paper, I will examine the aforementioned themes and analyze their meanings relating to the text as well as contemporary examples. The epic poem Gilgamesh is the first heroic epic of world literature. The story tells of the arrogant and ruthless, Gilgamesh, a powerful figure of a man but a poor king. He tyrannizes his people, exhausting men in combat and claiming the right to sleep with any woman he pleases. The gods create Enkidu, a wild creature, to challenge Gilgamesh. After being tamed by the harlot, Shamhat, Enkidu enters the city to confront his now equal. After an initial clashing of two egos, Gilgamesh and Enkidu become friends. On an expedition, they confront the demon Huwawa in the Cedar Forest and the Bull of Heaven requested by Ishta...

Essay on Consumer Behavior Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
On Consumer Behavior - Essay Example The quality of the car manufactured by Volkswagen principally targets the metropolitan areas on the basis of the consumption power possessed by the locales (Buck, Gajdecki, Heng, Kam, Pudlas and Horne). The targeted consumers of the organisation are the individuals aged from 20 years to 34 years, signifying the young generation group who are considered to be highly energetic and passionate regarding car models (Volkswagen, ââ¬Å"Company Informationâ⬠). The risk taking ability, irrespective of their income level, can also be regarded as a fundamental criterion of the targeted consumers which in turn make them the potential buyers of the brand. Price The personality traits of the customers indicate them to be more inclined towards quality and features of the car models rather than its price. In the similar context, personality can be defined as the responsive character traits of an individual which include their behaviours, emotions and psychology. Hence, it can be affirmed that according to the theory, the psychology traits possessed by an individual reveals his/her response toward the products and/or services served by the company (New Age Publishers, ââ¬Å"Consumer Behaviourâ⬠). ... urbanised areas, state that they are ready to pay high price in return of better quality assurance and comfort which indicates that the individuals decipher positive feedbacks to the products and the services delivered by the brand (Pride, William and Ferrell 402). Place Based on the assumptions of consumer culture theory, the targeted place to market the newly launched product should be selected emphasising on the individualist beliefs which would reward higher degree of decision-making liberty to the young people, i.e. the targeted consumers. According to the theory, consumer behaviours are largely influenced by the cultural beliefs perceived within a community (Sassatelli 9). Furthermore, the theory assumes that social doings and behaviours are tied up with developing a desire for the respective products and/or services which again implies the distinct character of consumers (Hovland & Wolburg 16). It is in this context that in a few of the regions, it is often witnessed that the consumers behave in a consistent manner with great similarity with their peersââ¬â¢ choices being based on identical beliefs and preferences which should be considered by Volkswagen while deciding upon its targeted market place. Product The product must be offered with greater value towards its features and quality assurance factors owing to the personality traits of the consumers. Contextually, consumer personality is described as the behaviour which is presented on behalf of particular products as well as services which is further specified as a demand (Azevedo). Concerning the personality traits of the targeted consumers, it can be noted that consumer behaviour which might be witnessed by Volkswagenââ¬â¢s new launched model is likely to be much more inclined towards the attractive features

Toddler backpacks If your child has just turned two he or she will probably think that they are completely independent now. A good way to encourage them and to plan some fun in the park is to buy them a backpack. It is important to choose the correct back pack for your toddler or you may find that you end up carrying it! Firstly the backpack must not be too long. You do not want to have the backpack pulling down or getting in the way on the slide (you may find that your child is not always willing to take off their new back pack once you get to the park!).Secondly it is important that you cannot fit too much in their back pack. There will be days when your toddler will want to take their entire car or doll collection out with them, if the back pack is fairly small then they will realize that not everything will fit into it and hence will learn to limit their park toys. Keeping it practical is an important part of everything to do with a toddler. You can guarantee that your toddler will want to carry their own picnic snacks so make sure that your toddlers backpack is easy to clean. It needs to be lined so you can just wipe out the inside. It is also probably a good idea to avoid the fabric outer layered ones as these get wet and waterlogged, and the mud sticks firmly to them. Now comes the really difficult choice what should your toddlers backpack have on it? Well, be warned that if you go for a recognized childrens character such as Noddy or Spiderman there is the chance that you child will decide that they no longer like this character and then they will want a new backpack! If you choose something more general such as a fireman bag, or a bag which is quite plain and you can pretend it is whatever you want it to be; one day it can be Dora the Explorers bag, the next day it can be Diegos backpack; it can be a doctors bag, whatever you child thinks of, you can pretend it is. Finally you need to make sure that you dont end up carrying your toddlers bag. Toddlers learn all the t ime from copying, so the more respect you give an item the more respect your child will give it. It might be a fun idea to give your toddler an old mobile phone which is no longer in use (remember to take out the battery for safety), and a key ring with an old key on it. Then when you are leaving home you can run through a check list; my bag, my keys, my phone; your bag, your keys, your phone. By doing this together he will see how important your bag is and will hopefully place a similar importance on his own bag. Now you are ready to head out together. If you are going on a long bus or train journey, I found it useful to sometimes hide a little present in the bottom of the bag, so just when it is all getting boring and the other passengers are starting to stare, you can get your toddler to delve into their bag and find a special treat if this is wrapped up, it will take up even more of the journey while they open it! Jon Kelly is a published author who writes pieces on a variety o f diverse subjects. This includes articles about all aspects of rucksacks and backpacks. If you would like to get more ideas about backpacks. Skateboard backpacks Since the hover boards of the future will be larger and taller than traditional skateboards they will require a little more room to be stored. For kids using hover boards to go to high school or using them on college campuses to get to and from the dorms, apartments or their homes special changes will need to be made on their backpacks storage systems. A few hover board designs which had been kicked around at the online think tank discussed inflatable sections of the board. If parts of the hover board can be deflated then the hover board can rest in a sleeve on the back of a custom designed backpack similar to the ones that kids use to put their schoolbooks in. Once done with class the rider will have to re-inflate the hover board; this can be done by a couple of strategies. A small pump mechanism can be incorporated into the backpack and solar powered operating by battery. The small pump would be engaged after the hover board is turned on which will allow the airflow directed into the inflatable parts. This would fill up the hover board like a balloon (half-way), but additional air pressure will be needed to fully inflate. This is where the small pump mechanism comes in. The backpack storage device for the hover board will be an integral part for the rider. Skateboards are often put into a sleeve in special backpacks with Velcro straps. The hover board will follow this tradition with only an incremental change as needed. Those who designed backpacks for schoolbooks will also get into the hover board backpack carrying business. Currently there are several patents for backpacks that hold skateboards and if you go into any skateboard shop you can see the current designs and models; these will all be changing as the number of hover boards increases into the market. There are even some inexpensive skateboard holding designs at Wal-Mart. The market potential for hover boards is most likely about 35 million users in the United States alone. Much of this will be determined by cost and efficient cease of economies of scale in manufacturing, along with current economic conditions. Accessories for hover boards will be as common as accessories for new iPods, BMX racing bikes or ATVs. There will also be new attire, safety gear and the incorporation of communication systems within the hover board available online in Internet Stores and in specialty skateboard, hover board and surfing shops. Net centrically speaking the backpack will be an integral part of hover board use in future society. -Childrens backpacks It can be difficult choosing the right rucksack for your kid therefore you should become aware of the wide ranging possibilities that you may pay for. It can be of utmost importance that we all give our kids with the right kind of backpack as befits what their ages are. Exactly what specifications should an individual pick? Exactly what color? Might the backpack be one with added wheels or simply a plain dual strap rucksack? Do you notice that a majority of young children are always in a hurry and most of the time they simply dispose of almost all their textbooks and stuff in their carriers, throw it across their sensitive backs then move out of the door? Selecting a bad kids school bags could cause them to have considerable spinal injuries and posture troubles. When utilizing school bags for kids, both shoulder straps should be used to disperse the weight of the load equally towards the shoulders. Make sure you get a backpack which includes numerous pockets to balance out the pressure on all sides. It can be harmful to lug weight that the physique is unable to tolerate so confine the weight you place on those backpacks for young people. Doctors advise that a childrens backpack need to be restricted to 15-20% of their total bodyweight. The backpack also needs to look eye-catching, fashionable and pleasing to the child. You may even choose one with large, padded straps which will not dig directly into your kids shoulder blades. Yet another alternative is a backpack on little wheels. But guarantee that the kids school allows the utilization of one. Spending some time to carry out a little shopping around before purchasing a book bag is worthy of the expense. With the new school year just beginning it seems appropriate to discuss the problem ma ny of our children are experiencing as a result of their backpacks. Textbooks, homework and other supplies place a heavy load on our childrens backs which can cause back pain during the school year and may progress to chronic back pain later in life. In 1998 the United States reported that over 12,700 children between the ages of 5-18 went to the emergency room to seek help for backpack related injuries. The reason is quite simple. Our children are carrying more weight than their bodies can handle. Carrying too much weight is a greater concern for a child than for an adult because as children grow their muscles, skeleton and brain learn from each other how to move. The abnormal positions required to carry an overloaded backpack become thought, by the body, to be normal, when in fact they are quite detrimental to our childs physical development. If a backpack weighs more than 25% of a childs body weight problems with balance precipitate injuries simply when climbing stairs or opening up doors. Waterproof backpacks Do you love the outdoors? Do you enjoy activities like camping, hiking, trekking, fishing and biking? Do you engage in adventurous sports? Does taking a break for you mean, packing your bags and heading to the countryside, river side or mountainside? Then what you really need to invest in is a waterproof backpack. Waterproof bags are a must for all outdoor lovers. They help shield electronic gadgets like cameras, torches, iPods and also protect food supplies and other essentials from getting wet. They come in waterproof materials ranging from polyurethane-coated nylon to waterproof tarpaulin. A thick lining on the inside gives complete waterproof guarantee to the users. When one embarks on adventurous trips, there could be a possibility of a sudden weather change like a thunder storm, a hailstorm or even a downright downpour. At such times a waterproof bag is like a blessing in disguise. It protects your clothes and travel items from damage. When you are on an expedition, you are pro bably cut off from stores where you can usually purchase supplies. It is therefore essential to protect ones belongings and waterproof backpacks help to do just that. They can be purchased online and will be shipped to your destination. Many adventure sports stores also offer these products. So grab your waterproof backpacks now and go wild! Backpacks with wheels I had not thought that a backpack with wheels would in fact work for backpacking, unitl I visited web site of Jansport, I was really impressed. You put on a frame that binds you to a wheeled backpack. You can even move through logs and rocks with it. I wondered about what may other backpacking ideas are in waiting to be exposed. Here are some more attractions that I came up with. Accept these ideas, please. With backpacks without frame we have to put folded sleeping pads in the backpack for pillowing against our backs and put some support for picking the load. A new idea is to have the part of the backpack that inflates against the users back. The same technology is used for lower weight auto-inflating sleeping pads, it would only add about a bit to the weight. The backpack could then also serve as a foot-bag / foot-pad for resting. Further enhancing this idea of back-with-wheels, I envisage an auto-inflating backpack that unfolds into a rest- pad. The frame of the backpack would ser ve as a U shaped pad, with desired rigidity in the pack, too. Auto-inflating resting or sleeping bag pads hardly weigh approx 15-ounce now while frame less packs measure approx 12-ounce or more, so a perfect combination of two can be achieved in just 20-ounce of total weight. Besides plastics, backpacking food bags are now available in Wax-paper packaging, too. Now as wax paper easily burn even when they are wet, these packages serve two-times more as fire-starters in emergency. If you have to carry more water than usual, you can take a plastic bladder from boxed wine. They are low-weight, robust, and you can inflate them with air to use as a pillow when needed. All you need is a remove its soft removable covering to use a two-in-one water container/pillow. Although it is not a backpack-with wheels item, another portable backpack idea is a frame-less jacket with backpack arrangements. It can be unfolded in a way that reveals normal shoulder straps. When used as jacket, it would alle viate the pack to keep you warm and cozy. It would also make it easy to pass through heavy brushes, as it does not catch on other stuffs easily. It experiences same as putting on a large jacket over a backpack, but with low-weight and stable utility that come with the combination. It is better known as a Pack-it Jack-et. For those are full with gaming and want to walk with gaming arrangements along, may print a chess or checkers board or some other game on a jacket or backpack, and carry you game along without extra care or concern. It serves a great time-pass arrangement when you have to spend hours in the tent in a rainy time. No need to bother about pieces, you can always use stones or pine as checkers, in stead. My mind is brimming up with innovative backpacking ideas as I write this article on backpack with wheels. Most of these ideas are items with two-in-one combinations. You may like some of them and ma

How should states who are all facing the same security dilemma interact
Within a society, the populace are compelled to follow rules due to being prompted by a higher authority. When these laws fail, rectifying this deficiency becomes a priority of the state; murderers are arrested, riots are suppressed, new regulations and safe checks are imposed to deter future renegades from harassing the system. These actions by the stateââ¬â¢s sovereign power ensure that the community remains harmonious and balanced. Within the international community an individual state is unable to defer to a higher authority to demand that justice be enforced, since there is no authority higher than the state itself. The consequence of this is that independent nations are forced to rely on themselves for security within international society. These facts lead to a question that has been at the core of just war theory debates; how should states who are all facing the same security dilemma interact with one another? The various theoretical answers to this question form to t wo fundamentally opposed conclusions; nations will either seek to expand their individual power to facilitate their own security, or will construct an international union to ensure mutual defense. While the latter promotes an international community based upon cooperation, the former predicts perpetual conflict. In order to perform an analysis of these conflicting predictions we will turn to Thucydides, who provides a historical example of this debate within his recount of the Melian Dialogue. Within this dialogue, the powerful Athenians assert that strength alone justifies their demand for the submission of the weaker island of Melos. The Melians counter with their own plea to justice, claiming that the advancement of Athenian power and Melian autonomy a... ...rve life and avoid death proves that the law of nature is more suited to cooperation than conflict. Using power to maintain power ensures the necessity of the continual use of force to quell those who a stateââ¬â¢s power is used to oppress. As the Athenians looked to history to prove that ââ¬Å"Nature always compels men to rule over anyone they can control,â⬠it fails to recognize that nature also compels men to be free, and the violence of the oppressor will be pitted against the violence oppressed. Even if the more powerful state is successful in its conquest, it will always be at war with those whose liberty it infringes upon. The strength that a nation utilizes to allow them to conquer today will be the same strength that forces them to fight tomorrow, and the next day. For these reasons the arguments of the Athenianââ¬â¢s must be rejected for those of the Melianââ¬â¢s.

Japan Airlines Flight 123 Essay
August 12, 1985- Japan Airlines flight 123 left Tokyo, Japan at around 6:10 in the evening, fourteen minutes later at an altitude of twenty four thousand feet, and three hundred knots, an explosion, oscillations, and cabin decompressions was heard and captured on the planeââ¬â¢s on board recorder. The captain on duty was seated at the right side of the plane and his co-pilot, who was at that time training for promotion to be a captain, was sitting on the left seat. A few moments later, the captain signals an SOS on the transponder and suggests that the flight return to Tokyo. The airplane went down to twenty two thousand feet and went on doing violent movements; the plane, for about two minutes was doing a Phugoid, or longitudinal motion and rolls. The captain and his co-pilot were helpless and had no means in controlling the airplaneââ¬â¢s heading through the usual flight control inputs. Their only way of limited control is done through thrust differentials. The plane was able to maintain an altitude of twenty two thousand feet and two hundred and fifty knots for an approximate duration of twenty minutes. At around 6:39 in the evening, the main landing gear was deployed which caused the erratic movements of the plane to intensify. The plane then did a controlled turn to the left while descending to eight thousand feet. Erratic movement of the plane meanwhile, continue. At 6:47 PM, the plane was in a mountainous area, the plane increased power, and they were at five thousand and three hundred feet. The flaps of the plane were extended at 6:51 PM that caused the roll angle of the plane to be sixty degrees, the crew starts to move the flaps and increase thrust. The plane was at ten thousand feet when it began a nose dive at a very fast eighteen thousand feet per minute. The crew countered this by lifting the nose. 6:56 PM ââ¬â the airplane crashed at the mountains on an altitude of five thousand feet and three hundred and forty knots. Roughly forty six minutes since take-off and thirty two minutes since the decompression. Boeing, as owners of the plane, are somehow responsible for the crash but definitely they are not the only ones to blame and do not deserve to be blamed in entirety. Part of the responsibility lies with Japan Airlines who maintains the plane. In fairness to Boeing, they have provided specific repair instructions to the plane that was not followed by those who were responsible for the repairs. The plane had previously suffered damage to the bulkhead in 1978 but was not repaired properly. As stated in the report, ââ¬Å"The initiation and propagation of the fatigue cracks are attributed to the improper repairs of the bulkhead, conducted in 1978, and since the fatigue cracks were not found in the later maintenance inspection, this contributed to the accident. â⬠(Aviation Safety Network, 2008). Boeing did its part by providing proper instructions but their failure to see to it that they were carried out properly contributed to the crash which makes them partly guilty of neglect. There was confusion on the rescue operation, A US owned helicopter was the first at the scene, about twenty minutes after impact. The US chopper in turn, informed Yokota Air Base and offered backup. But the US helicopter was ordered to return to base because Japanese forces were to handle the mission. Poor visibility at the crash site prompted the Japanese team to report that there were no survivors and made it impossible to land. Thinking that there were no survivors the rest of the rescue team waited till the next morning to check out the site. But there were survivors, reports show that injuries on the bodies found imply that they survived the crash but were not given immediate medical attention which caused their deaths. If the helicopter pilot hadnââ¬â¢t reported abruptly that there were no survivors, there could have been. References Aviation Safety Network. (2007). Essay on The Impact of the Oil and Gas Industry on the...
The production of oil is a multi-billion dollar industry that affects the world on many different levels including environmental and economic, and these affects could be considered either positive or negative. Although there are many products of oil that people rely on every day, oil drilling has long been a controversial topic. Oil spills that endanger wild life and create pollution, and wars fought over lands that contain oil have been just a few of the damaging concerns that become heavily debated when the subject of oil is tackled. The upsides to these debates are the money it generates, the employment opportunities, and the products created using oil such as, gasoline, concrete, plastic, and even some clothes we wear. While oil mayâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Fish, sea otters, seals, whales, clams and birds were all affected by this tragedy. Fishing was a major part of this community, so in turn the people were affected also. This has been the largest oil spill to date, k illing more animals than any other oil spill in the world. ââ¬Å"Only 2 of the 26 species studied by the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council have recovered (bald eagle and river otter). The Exxon Valdez spill killed nearly ten times as many birds as any other U.S. or European oil spill. As many as half a million birds died. Over 30,000 carcasses of 90 species of birds were plucked from the beaches, but this is only a fraction of the actual mortality. Harms to the birds from chronic effects and decreased reproduction continue to the present.â⬠(Miller, 1999) The oil spill of Valdez is as much a problem now as it was 20 years ago. Even after two decades, people and animals are still suffering from the effects of an oil tanker spilling its cargo into the waters surrounding Alaska. ââ¬Å"Much of the oil has been cleaned up or has biodegraded, but some of it still lingers. An estimated 21,000 gallons out of the 11 million that spilled (still remains) and the biodegradation process has actually slowed.â⬠(Fowler, 2010) Because of the loss of fish life, fishermen of the community took loans in order to make it though their daily lives.
